At the core of this work is an exploration of the physical limits of perception and the support itself. Utilizing water-stretched black paper for its matte, light-absorbing qualities, the creative process involves a repetitive cycle of construction and destruction. Through the grafting of opaque paper layers and the manual erasure of the surface with sandpaper, the emerging figure is intentionally dismantled.

This practice reflects the fragmented nature of how we understand the “other.” In our attempt to truly grasp someone else, we often find ourselves only with incomplete traces. The figure here is not a specific individual, but a manifestation of that very uncertainty. Furthermore, the isolated point of color functions as a calculated visual noise, intended to interrupt the viewer’s urge to read a conventional narrative into the image.

This piece is a record of physical resistance—a state of suspension where the subject is almost recognizable, yet ultimately eludes definition.

本作の核となるのは、知覚の限界、そして支持体そのものの物理的な限界に対する探求です。光を抑えたマットな質感を持つ黒い紙を基盤とし、構築と破壊のサイクルを繰り返すことで画面を構成しています。不透明な紙の層を接合し、手作業でヤスリをかけ、描線を抹消していくプロセスを通じ、立ち上がりかけた像を意図的に解体しています。

この実践は、人が他者を理解しようとする際の断片的なプロセスを反映したものです。私たちが誰かを深く理解しようと試みるとき、手元に残るのは常に不完全な痕跡でしかありません。描かれた人物は特定の誰かではなく、その「不確かさ」そのものの現れです。また、一点だけ配置された色は、画面の中に物語を読み取ろうとする視線を遮るための、計算された視覚的ノイズとして機能しています。

本作は物質的な抵抗の記録であり、対象が認識されそうでいて、なお定義を逃れ続ける「宙吊りの状態」を定着させたものです。
